Research Assistant

Title: Hourly Research Assistant

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Location: Denton

We are hiring a highly motivated Research Assistant in the Henard Laboratory at the University of North Texas. The incumbent will perform microbial genetics research on non-model, non-pathogenic bacteria, focusing on engineering methanotrophic bacteria to maximize product formation from one-carbon substrates. Projects involve molecular and synthetic biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, mutagenesis, DNA transformation, and microbial physiology.

• Perform experiments and develop protocols in coordination with the PI and lab members.
• Maintain the laboratory: prepare growth media, manage glassware and solutions, and organize data.
• Write and orally present scientific results and develop graphical representations.

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related discipline.

• Experience working with microbes, preferably non-model bacteria.
• Analytical chemistry experience (HPLC, GC).
• Proficiency in advanced molecular techniques (qPCR, RTPCR, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, DNA sequencing).

Communicating with others to exchange information.
Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, elevated temperatures, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Hours may vary depending on experiments. Monday–Friday.
