Department SummaryThe Department of Materials Science and Engineering is dedicated to providing a high-quality educational experience through excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and scholarly activity. Our mission is to prepare students to address the evolving scientific and engineering challenges of Texas and the nation. We achieve this through a balanced curriculum that integrates rigorous coursework, hands-on laboratory training, and research opportunities encompassing both fundamental materials science and practical engineering applications.
This comprehensive approach equips students with the knowledge, technical skills, and research experience needed to succeed in academia, industry, and public service. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
This position is required to work closely with UNT faculty colleagues, and researchers at sponsoring agencies on high performance metallic materials. The position would require strong background in microstructure, mechanical properties, understanding of advanced solid state processing of metallic materials. Experience with solid state additive manufacturing of aluminum alloys is essential.
Minimum QualificationsPhD in Materials Science and Engineering
Preferred QualificationsDetailed publications on solid state additive manufacturing of aluminum alloys and deformation mechanisms. Excellent skills in relating microstructure to mechanical properties.
Job Duties- Conduct experiments, gather data, document research notes, code and analyze data, interpret data.
- Keep up with historical and latest research data and publications.
- Prepare manuscripts for publications in a timely manner and talks and posters for presentation at group meetings and conferences. Assist with reporting of research progress to funding agencies.
- Help in preparing reviews and research proposal writing.
- Stay up to date with all trainings, and federal, state, university and department requirements.
