A Ph.D. graduate research assistant position is available in the Alonso Laboratory at the Bio Discovery Institute and Department of Biological Sciences, University of North Texas (UNT), beginning in Fall 2027
.
The project will investigate how the human fungal pathogen Histoplasma capsulatum acquires and utilizes nutrients inside host immune cells. The research combines biochemistry, metabolic pathway analysis, host-pathogen interactions, metabolomics, stable isotope tracing, metabolic flux analysis, and mathematical modeling to understand the metabolic mechanisms that support intracellular pathogen proliferation. Student will receive training in state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), metabolomics, stable isotope-assisted metabolic flux analysis, computational metabolic modeling, and data analysis.
We are seeking highly motivated student with a strong interest in:
Biochemistry and metabolism;
Metabolic pathways;
Host-pathogen interactions;
Mass spectrometry and metabolomics;
Quantitative and computational approaches to biology.
Eligibility:
Due to funding source restrictions, applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents
