Department Summary: We're the Department of Physics. We study space, time, energy, and matter at all scales ranging from those describing subatomic particles to the evolution and structure of the universe as a whole.

Work with the graduate students on establishing the 3-omega experiment to measure thermal conductivity of thin films.

Ph.D.

Recognize advancement in laboratory research.

Ph.D. with industry experience in infrared sensors.

Valid Texas Driver's License

• Design the experimental setup for thermal conductivity measurements using the 3-omega technique.
• Assess the performance of the lock-in amplifier and suggest modifications to the experimental set up to make measurements in the high-frequency range.
• Design the heater pads on select substrates in terms of its geometry to ensure radial heat flow and estimate the thermal penetration depth.
• Review literature to obtain appropriate equations to measure thermal conductivity.
• Compare the measured values with standards for SiO2, quartz, Si, TiN.

• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
• Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
