Summary:
Responsible for assisting with daily operation of the City Jail to ensure the welfare, safety, and security of inmates and staff.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties:
Process all incoming and outgoing jail inmates including, but not limited to, taking photographs and fingerprints, documenting markings and tattoos, completing appropriate computerized forms including arrest, biographical data, medical history, appropriate criminal charges, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) compliance, conduct search for contraband prior to escorting to jail cell, enter and remove inmate property into property/evidence room, and entering information into the applicable database.
Perform and document activities to ensure welfare, safety, and security of inmates, internal, and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, controlling jail entry/exit, monitor all visitors, secure visitors and inmates during visits, supervise inmate(s) during booking process, holding, jail cell, visits, and restraint chair, conduct routine inmate checks, monitor jail camera system, prepare and distribute meals, administer prescribed medication, issue clothing, shoes, blankets and personal hygiene items, cleanup spills, waste and/or bodily fluids, and laundry tasks.
Communicate with mental health agencies to facilitate and request inmate evaluations, as needed. Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/first aid and summon medical attention, as needed; notify leadership immediately of welfare, safety, and/or security issues. Complete tasks including, but not limited to, conducting Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) criminal histories, providing officers with warrant information, preparing arraignment and municipal court documents, assisting municipal judges, escorting inmates to and from arraignment proceedings, scanning e-file jail paperwork documentation for district attorney, providing testimony during court proceedings, preparing Denton County Sheriff Office (DCSO) jail booking documents, and facilitating jail transfers of Class B and higher inmate offenders.
Conduct administrative tasks including, but not limited to, answering telephones, handling inquiries, submits facility maintenance request(s), completes bond forms, Personal Recognizance (P/R) bonds, cash bonds, witnessing surety bonds, accepting, and processing bond payments, sending teletypes to external agencies, confirming 24-hour inmate pickups, reconciling incoming cash bonds, ensuring the integrity of incoming cash funds, and fingerprinting members of the general public, as required.

Licenses/Certifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent; and, Must have or obtain a valid Municipal Jailer certification from Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEXS) within one (1) year of employment; and, Must have or obtain a valid certification from Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) within 90 days of employment; and, Must have or obtain a valid certification from National Crime Information Center (NCIC) within 90 days of employment;
and, Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification within 90 days of employment or completed at the next City of Denton offered course (online training is not valid); and, Must have or obtain a Food Handlers certification recognized by Texas Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) within 30 days of employment, OR Any combination of related education and experience that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations. Skill in analyzing and researching, to interpret and understand policies, laws, and regulations, and to provide workable recommendations and solutions that maintain compliance. Skill in problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Skill at the beginner level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work.
