Position SummaryThis position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on all equipment associated with the production and distribution of chilled and heating water to buildings on the UNT Denton campuses. It includes building automation troubleshooting and the troubleshooting/repair of chilled and heating water end-use devices (AHUs). The role also covers maintenance on DX units and related control devices. The goal is to provide livable/workable interior spaces for students, faculty, staff, and research.
The role may be assigned to an on-call rotation and may require weekend events a few times a year. It is considered essential personnel and may require overtime, including nights and weekends as needed.
- Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, builds/upgrades HVAC equipment in Auxiliary buildings, including building automation systems.
- Inspects HVAC systems and components (heating/cooling units, exhaust and ventilation, etc.) to evaluate condition, identify repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance.
- Prepares written or digital materials (repair status, activity logs, parts requests) for documentation and communication.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including electrical motors and compressors.
- Performs daily inspections of building mechanical rooms and reports findings.
- Demonstrates reliability and follows policies; completes duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Promotes Facilities core values of Service, Integrity, and Excellence; maintains a safe and secure work environment; demonstrates punctuality and adherence to attendance policies.
- Communicates effectively and participates in on-call rotations and special events as required.
- Five years of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ability to conduct research on, work on, or access critical organizational infrastructure while maintaining security and integrity of the infrastructure.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance; understanding of hazards and safety precautions; knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings.
- Ability to use basic shop math.
- Ability to locate and identify problems in building systems or equipment and plan/execute repairs.
- Physical ability to perform moderately heavy work, including lifting, crawling, and working outdoors in inclement weather.
- Knowledge of safety and security precautions relevant to the work.
- Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance if required to drive University vehicles.
- 608 Universal Certification.
- Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and upgrades HVAC in Auxiliary buildings; manages building automation.
- Inspects HVAC systems and components for condition and preventive maintenance needs.
- Maintains documentation of activities, repairs, and parts requests.
- Addresses mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems including motors and compressors.
- Performs daily inspections of mechanical rooms and reports findings.
- Follows policies, demonstrates accountability, and upholds core values.
- Maintains a safe work environment and demonstrates punctuality and reliability.
Ability to communicate, ascend/descend ladders and stairs, lift and move objects up to 50 pounds, move between worksites, work in confined spaces, operate machinery/tools, and operate vehicles.
