Job Overview
:
The Corrections Facility Technician II performs skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and security systems in the Sheriff’s Department, Detention Center, and jail facilities. Responsibilities include building trade work—electrical, plumbing, HVAC—and supervising inmate trustee activities on work projects.

Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled maintenance of mechanical and technical security systems, including security locks, doors, surveillance systems, fire alarms, smoke exhaust, and life‑safety equipment.
  • Maintain heating and air‑conditioning systems: check thermostats, couplers, fuses, belts, motors, and assist in major repair projects.
  • Execute plumbing duties: assemble, install and repair pipes and fittings, clear clogged drains, troubleshoot issues, and repair toilets and faucets.
  • Repair and alter building components—floors, ceilings, stairways, doors, walls, windows, masonry, furniture—and conduct preventive maintenance per monthly schedule.
  • Assist in preparing estimates, cost analyses, and drafting engineering plans for repair projects.
  • Repair and maintain high‑security door systems within the jail perimeter.
  • Supervise inmate trustee work groups, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Conduct vendor inquiries, purchase small repair items, receive materials, and review contracted work for quality compliance.
  • Perform monthly preventive maintenance and required systems tests in accordance with Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of seven years of related experience; alternatively an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current state or local license in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Must obtain Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Jailer certification within one year of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license; must obtain a Texas driver’s license within 90 days.
