Sewer Line Maintenance and Construction Worker
Responsible for the maintenance and construction of sewer lines throughout the city.
Essential Functions:
- Under general supervision, proficiently operates one or more types of light to medium sized motorized construction/maintenance equipment (i.e. warehouse/interior forklift, bobcat, backhoe, compressor, riding-compactor, vehicle for running errands, small water truck, dump truck and utility truck) to excavate, move and/or grade material.
- Operates larger motorized equipment as needed
- Performs various skilled duties using hand and power tools
- Performs pre-inspections and post-inspections of all equipment and trucks before and after use; performs minor maintenance activities and cleaning of equipment, and reports problems to supervisor
- May set up street barricades and function as a flagger for traffic control
- Must be able to perform duties in a confined space such as a manhole or trench
- May confer with customers regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisor
- Maintains on-call availability for after hour emergencies
- Reads and understands reference books and manuals and current industry operational practices

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
- Must have or obtain a valid TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License from within twelve (12) months of employment
- Must have or obtain a valid TCEQ Class I Wastewater Collections Operator License from within twelve (12) months of employment OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
- Ability to read and understand reference books and complicated procedures such as utility plans and equipment operation manuals
- Skilled in the operation of backhoe, skid steer loader and dump truck
Preferences:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Possess Unit II Wastewater Collections Certification from TCEQ
Conditions of Employment:
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment
- Must possess or obtain a valid TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License from within twelve (12) months of employment
- Must possess and obtain a valid TCEQ Class I Wastewater Collections Operator License from within twelve (12) months of employment
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include nights and weekends
- Must be able to work overtime when requested
- Good physical condition to be able to perform physical tasks in all kinds of weather
- Requires lifting up to 100 lbs.
