Cost Accountant

Overview

Our client is seeking a Cost Accountant on a temporary basis to support financial operations during a period of increased workload and/or transition. This role will focus on inventory, manufacturing costs, and variance analysis, partnering closely with operations and finance leadership to ensure accurate and timely cost reporting.

• Analyze and maintain standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead
• Prepare and review cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory-related journal entries
• Perform variance analysis (price, usage, labor, overhead) and provide actionable insights
• Support month-end close related to inventory and costing
• Reconcile inventory accounts and review cycle count results
• Assist with bill of materials (BOM) and routing accuracy
• Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and production teams to improve cost visibility
• Support process improvements related to cost accounting and reporting

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3+ years of cost accounting experience (manufacturing or distribution environment preferred)
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting and standard costing
• Proficiency with ERP systems (Net Suite, SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or similar)
• Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas)
• Ability to step in quickly, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
