Tax Accountant, Tax Manager, Accounting & Finance
Seed Money Consulting is an independent, fee-based accounting and advisory firm serving small business owners, entrepreneurs, and individual taxpayers across Colorado and beyond. We combine the breadth of a full-service firm with the personal attention of a boutique practice — delivering tax, bookkeeping, payroll, and strategic advisory services through engagements tailored to each client's stage and needs.
Our "CFO in-a-box" model lets clients select the right mix of services as their business grows. Because we are fee-based and do not sell financial products, our recommendations are always aligned with the client's interests — not a commission. That independence is core to who we are.
We're built for people who want to do meaningful work for clients they actually know, in a culture that values autonomy, technical excellence, and growth — without the grind of a Big Four track.
THE ROLEWe're hiring a CPA / Tax Practitioner to take ownership of a portfolio of small business and individual clients. This is a hands‑on, client‑facing role with significant room to grow alongside the firm. You'll prepare and review returns, manage ongoing bookkeeping and payroll engagements, advise clients on tax planning and business decisions, and play a real part in growing both your book and the firm's footprint.
If you've felt stuck doing volume work without seeing the bigger picture, or you've wanted more responsibility and client ownership than your current role offers, this is the kind of position that gives you both.
Salary rage: $85,000-$110,000 per year
WHAT YOU'LL DO Tax & Compliance- Prepare and review individual (1040), S‑corp (1120‑S), partnership (1065), and select C‑corp (1120) returns, including multi‑state filings
- Handle Colorado payroll setup and ongoing compliance (FAMLI, SUTA, CDOR), sales tax registration and filings, and 941/940 reporting
- Manage IRS and state agency notices end‑to‑end — from triage through resolution
- Provide tax planning, quarterly projections, and entity‑level strategy throughout the year, not just at filing time
- Oversee monthly bookkeeping engagements, including reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and month‑end close
- Serve as a fractional CFO / trusted advisor for select clients — interpreting financial performance, supporting business decisions, and building forward‑looking projections
- Identify opportunities to expand engagements where clients would benefit from additional services
- Own client relationships from onboarding through ongoing service — you're not just a back‑office preparer
- Translate complex tax and accounting concepts into clear, actionable guidance
- Handle difficult conversations with judgment — scope changes, payment issues, corrections to prior work, and challenging client situations
- Participate in business development — referrals, networking, consultations, and growing existing engagements
- Help shape firm processes, training materials, and service offerings as we scale
- Optional: supervise CPA candidates accruing experience hours toward licensure as the firm grows
- Active CPA license in Colorado (or willingness/eligibility to transfer in promptly)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience preparing individual and business tax returns
- Working knowledge of payroll compliance, sales tax, and agency response procedures
- Strong written and verbal communication, especially with non‑technical clients
- Self‑directed work style and comfort with a remote‑first environment
- Experience with Intuit Pro Connect Tax, Quick Books Online, and Gusto (we will train, but familiarity accelerates your ramp)
- Background working with small businesses across industries — real estate, restaurants, professional services, construction, e‑commerce, or similar
- Comfort with business development, referrals, and identifying expansion opportunities within an existing client base
- Personal financial planning exposure — Roth conversions, retirement contribution optimization, multi‑year tax projections
- Experience supervising CPA candidates or junior staff
