Purpose of Position

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for supporting payroll accounting operations across RK Industries by maintaining payroll‑related general ledger structures, reconciling payroll accounts, and serving as a liaison between Corporate Accounting, the Payroll Department and HR. This role ensures accurate payroll financial reporting, proper job cost allocations, and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. The Payroll Accountant plays a key role in maintaining integrity between payroll systems, accounting records, and job costing processes.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Reconcile payroll‑related balance sheet and expense accounts on a recurring basis.
  • Prepare and post payroll‑related journal entries and accruals.
  • Review payroll transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll accounting discrepancies and variances.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close activities related to payroll accounting.
  • Assist with payroll tax account reconciliations and related reporting support.
  • Analyze labor distribution and payroll expense trends.
  • Maintain payroll‑related GL codes and earning/deduction mappings within Dayforce.
  • Maintain job cost GL codes and payroll‑related accounting structures in Vista by Viewpoint.
  • Ensure payroll coding aligns with company cost structures, job costing requirements, and financial reporting standards.
  • Coordinate updates to accounting mappings resulting from organizational, project, or operational changes.
  • Assist with system testing and validation related to payroll accounting changes or upgrades.
  • Act as liaison between Corporate Accounting and the Payroll Department to resolve payroll accounting issues.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure accurate labor costing and reporting.
  • Respond to internal inquiries regarding payroll accounting transactions, coding, and reconciliations.
  • Support internal and external audit requests related to payroll accounting records and controls.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, GAAP, and internal control procedures.
  • Assist in developing and documenting payroll accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Monitor payroll accounting processes for accuracy, consistency, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations as applicable.
  • Prepare payroll‑related financial reports and support schedules.
  • Assist management with labor cost reporting and variance analysis.
  • Provide supporting documentation for audits, tax filings, and financial reviews.
  • Participate in special accounting and payroll‑related projects as assigned.
Accountability
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Prompt, punctual, and regular attendance during core business hours. Ability to occasionally travel between corporate offices and job sites within the Denver Metro Area, during work hours.
