Position SummaryMPC has an opportunity for an Accountant. Accountants in the NG & NGL organization are responsible for settling one or more plant or gathering assets and/or assisting other accountants with their assets in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with company policies using the various accounting systems. This position reports to the Accounting Team Supervisor operations and is located in Denver, CO.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, compile, analyze, and verify financial and other data to ensure the integrity of accounting records. Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare analysis and schedules in support of financial statements. Create and record journal entries and other transactions, maintain general ledger, and reconcile accounts.
- Identify efficiencies and recommend ways to improve processes and standards.
- Ensure the integrity of financial transactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Support accounting processes by addressing and assisting with fulfilling business requirements, processes, or system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.
- Ensure standard business processes are followed within specific accounting functions.
- Ensure successful completion of internal and external audits.
- Ensure proper execution of controls, performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting policy.
- Serve as a resource to less experienced accountants. May train or review the work of others.
- Document, update, and maintain internal procedures or work on special projects.
- Assist in preparation of analysis and schedules in support of financial statements and related disclosures.
- Display advanced ability to utilize systems and tools, including but not limited to Excel and SAP.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. An accounting degree is preferred.
- Two (2) years of accounting/finance experience required.
- One to three years of oil and gas industry experience preferred.
