Front Line Farming (FLF) is a nonprofit food and farmer advocacy organization focusing on growing food, education, sovereignty and justice. We grow high quality produce which supports fair wages for our farmers and is distributed through CSA shares, donations to a variety of non‑profit partners, and in other ways to our communities. Front Line Farming is dedicated to cultivating local food systems on the Front Range of Colorado.

Job Description

Bookkeeping to support the work of Business Operations Director. Day‑to‑day expense and income tracking in Quick Books Online and preparation of monthly financial reports including monthly reconciliations and yearly audit tasks. Maintaining financial records for fiscal sponsorship relationships including payroll, monthly reporting and invoicing. This position and all "inside" positions at Front Line Farming must align with our larger mission‑driven work of growing and supporting the food systems of Colorado.

Every full time employee at FLF is required to work as a farmer once a week through the growing season, May‑October and after one full season, should choose a farm‑related activity like herbalism, mushrooms, animal care or flowers as a task‑concentration. This ensures that our farmers and office staff are integrated and supporting each other physically and mentally. Additionally, Front Line Farming encompasses the communities we serve - this means that the food we grow is intentionally grown for us as well as our CSA members and other customers.

Food as a benefit is not intended to supplant pay but ensures that our teams are connected through the food we grow.

Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all day‑to‑day bookkeeping of the organization including all tasks related to fiscal sponsorship accounting.
  • Monthly reporting for fiscal sponsees.
  • Run semi‑monthly payroll for fiscal sponsees.
  • Process all reimbursement requests.
  • Accounts receivable – invoice creation, tracking and payment reminders.
  • Ensure all grant accounts are accurately tracking income and expenses.
  • Knowledge of all fiscal sponsee grant needs including reimbursables, dates of payments and contract reporting needs.
  • Logging and matching of all expenses and deposits, ensuring coding matches Chart of Account and class designations.
  • Maintaining and processing invoices related to fiscal accounts.
  • Bank and other financial accounting monthly reconciliations.
  • Communication with accounting team to maintain clean and organized books.
  • Audit tasks including communication with accounting team to ensure all audit documents are turned in by deadline.
  • Knowledge of integrations with QBO, website payments and payroll systems, regular audits to ensure integrations are functioning.
  • Execute journal entries, account analysis, and accrual‑based accounting tasks.
  • Participate in the development and advancement of best practices.
Key Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, and related field experience at least 4 years.
  • Experience in GAAP accounting, compliance and reporting.
  • Experience with cloud‑based accounting systems and processes.
  • QBO Certification or related experience.
  • Excellent computer skills and capacity for learning new systems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a virtual team.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Excellent organization and planning, analytical, communications, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and manage many clients simultaneously.
