Overview
We are seeking a Senior Accounting Consultant to join a growing health services organization specializing in substance abuse treatment. This role is designed as a contract-to-hire opportunity, offering a clear path to permanent placement and upward mobility into an Accounting Manager role within approximately 12 months for the right candidate.
This position will serve as a key bridge resource, providing hands-on accounting execution while also bringing thought leadership and process improvement insight to help elevate the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Perform and review general ledger activity, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Apply strong understanding of debits and credits to maintain clean and audit-ready financials
- Support month-end and year-end close processes
- Partner with leadership to identify process improvements and efficiencies
- Assist with cash management activities, including interaction with JP Morgan Chase banking platform
- Manage expense reporting and workflows using Concur
- Utilize Sage accounting software for financial operations and reporting
- Develop advanced reporting and analysis using Microsoft Excel
- Provide mentorship and informal leadership, helping to elevate junior staff over time
- Contribute to special projects and initiatives tied to organizational growth
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (strongly preferred)
- 5+ years of accounting experience; large company experience highly preferred
- Strong technical accounting foundation, including financial statement preparation
- Experience with:
- Sage (or similar ERP systems)
- Concur
- JP Morgan Chase or similar banking platforms
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Proven ability to step into interim roles and drive impact quickly
- Demonstrated leadership potential with a track record of stepping up and adding value
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Background in healthcare or behavioral health/substance abuse services (highly preferred)
- Experience in contract-to-hire or consulting environments
- Exposure to scaling or high-growth organizations
