Responsibilities

The Accountant II completes accounting and payroll activities to ensure accurate and timely financial records for the Finance Division and other assigned divisions. Key duties include:

  • Recording and entry of cross‑functional accounting transactions
  • Approving general ledger accounting and payroll activities and reconciliations for General Financial Accounting and Grant Program Accounting including Cash, Federal, and State Grants
  • Reviewing and creating journal entries
  • Reviewing, coordinating, and correcting CDLE quarterly and year‑end diagnostic reporting to the State Controller’s Office
  • Managing fixed assets and capital assets, including processing entries for depreciation, additions, and deletions
  • Processing transactions for general accounting and grant program expenditure, revenue, asset and liability accounts
  • Reallocating shared and direct costs to CDLE divisions
  • Approving ITI/ITA transactions
  • Compiling and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
  • Supporting divisions and offices with budgeting, procurement, payroll, bank, and grant program accounting needs
  • Monitoring and reporting general accounting and grant program fund allocations to keep accountants informed
  • Ensuring conformance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations
  • Processing lease payments and encumbrance modifications as needed
  • Assisting with procurement contracting services and collaboration
  • Performing accounting for state and federal fiscal year‑end closing activities and audits
  • Managing fixed asset accounting, including depreciation calculations and schedule maintenance
  • Developing written checklists, policies, and procedures
  • Performing other duties assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
  • Or a combination of related education (27 semester hours in accounting or auditing) and/or relevant experience equal to six (6) years
  • Current, valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy counts for six (6) years
Preferred Qualifications
  • Payroll accounting experience
  • Time‑Keeping and/or Universal Kronos Group application (UKG) experience
  • Experience performing similar duties as a State of Colorado classified employee
