Senior Technical Accountant Denver

Salary: $80,000 - $120,000/YR. Actual offer will be based on experience, location, education, and/or skills.

Overview

First Western Trust is seeking a Senior Technical Accountant to develop, prepare, analyze, and monitor technical accounting areas for the Bank, including monthly entries and reconciliations for investments, the allowance for credit losses, derivatives, taxes, leases, and equity (including the administration of equity rewards). The role also involves preparing quarterly and annual technical accounting memos (e.g., ACL, goodwill impairment, AFS debt security unrealized losses, and assets and liabilities held at fair value) and supporting financial reporting activities such as Form 4 filings, proxy preparation, and workbooks related to 10-Q and 10-K disclosures.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare monthly accounting entries and reconciliations for investments, the allowance for credit losses, derivatives, taxes, leases, and other complex accounting areas.
• Support a timely close by ensuring timely journal entries and reconciliations.
• Research variances and respond to inquiries related to monthly technical accounting entries and reconciliations.
• Prepare technical accounting memos that align with GAAP and appropriate accounting presentation.
• Research and analyze special projects involving complex accounting transactions and new accounting standards.
• Maintain supporting documentation for external audits, internal audits, regulators, and other reviewers.
• Track and report on stock compensation plans and related accounting treatment (grants, exercises, and forfeitures for restricted stock plans).
• Create, update, and review accounting processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, internal controls, and GAAP/compliance with Company policies.
• Initiate and participate in process improvements and provide accounting support as assigned.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
• Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred).
• 3–5 years of combined public accounting and external reporting for a publicly traded company (required).
• Experience with SEC reporting or regulatory filings (preferred).
• Knowledge of GAAP with direct experience in SEC or bank regulatory filings (preferred).
• Expert Excel skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (General Ledger) experience (preferred).
• Strong communication skills and effective time management.
• CPA designation or progress toward certification (preferred).
