The Department of Finance manages the city's investing, fiscal analysis, budgeting, debt and asset management, tax assessment and collection, and accounting functions as well as establishing, maintaining and enforcing fiscal policies, practices and procedures for the entire City and County of Denver. What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring range for this position is $75,000.00 - $90,000.00/year, based on experience and education.

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
What You'll Do
The Department of Finance supports the City and County of Denver through strong financial stewardship, transparent reporting, and effective fiscal operations. Our Accounting Division is a collaborative, fast‑paced environment focused on accuracy, service, and continuous improvement.
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Controller's Office General Accounting Team-an experienced professional who thrives in reconciliation, complex accounting activities, and cross‑department collaboration. If you enjoy meaningful, detail‑oriented work and supporting major financial operations across a large municipal organization, we'd love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
As the Senior Accountant, you will:
* Reconcile complex discrepancies within bank and general ledger activity, researching and resolving errors.
* Support month‑end and year‑end close activities including reviewing general ledger activity and working with agencies on accounting questions.
* Review and approve Workday accounting entries to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Assist with audit requests and provide documentation as needed.
* Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the City, responding to inquiries, provide specialized and complex information and assistance with regard to specific accounting transactions, and work with client groups to resolve accounting discrepancies and guide decision making.
* Lead Debt and Investment accounting and reporting activities, which includes maintaining financial systems and records with regard to bonds and certified lease transactions and records, researching and reviewing related journal entries within the general ledger, working with consultants to ensure compliance with arbitrage regulations, ensuring records and supporting documents are maintained, and trains staff on financial systems and processes.
