Kargo Long Distance is seeking a Workshop Assistant to provide operational support to the workshop maintenance team by assisting with inspections, basic mechanical maintenance, and repair activities on vehicles and trailers. The role is responsible for ensuring that workshop operations run efficiently by supporting qualified mechanics, maintaining tools and equipment, and helping to identify and report mechanical faults. The role requires a basic understanding of mechanical systems, the ability to safely use hand tools and workshop equipment, and a willingness to learn and develop technical skills under the supervision of experienced mechanics.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect trailers for visible damage
- Check tyres, wheel nuts, and wheel nut indicators
- Check lights and electrical connections
- Inspect air hoses and brake lines for leaks
- Check landing legs and locks
- Grease trailer components (kingpin, landing legs, suspension)
- Replace lights and bulbs
- Tighten loose bolts and fittings
- Replace air hoses or electrical suzie lines
- Assist with brake pad or brake shoe replacements
- Inspect brake chambers and slack adjusters
- Check air leaks in brake system
- Remove and fit trailer wheels
- Assist with tyre replacement
- Fit reflectors and safety markings
- Check for damages and report to the Workshop Manager
- Cleaning and maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas
- Ensure workshop housekeeping standards are maintained
- Assist with workshop housekeeping and standards maintenance
- Reporting faults, defects or safety hazards identified during inspections
