Overview
Position: Safety Manager – Airport & Heavy Civil Projects
Location: Denver, CO (Denver International Airport and surrounding jobsites)
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000 per year (DOE)
Job SummaryThe Safety Manager – Airport & Heavy Civil Projects oversees all safety and health programs on active jobsites, conducts daily inspections, leads incident investigations, and ensures full compliance with OSHA, FAA, OCIP, and owner requirements. You will serve as the primary safety resource for project management, superintendents, and subcontractors on a 5- to 6-day work schedule.
Responsibilities- Conduct daily safety and health inspections; maintain written logs of findings and corrective actions.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations; complete reports and track corrective measures.
- Verify superintendent, project management, and subcontractor compliance with safety requirements and OCIP guidelines.
- Attend pre-construction, pre-work, and in-progress meetings to address risk-management issues.
- Deliver safety orientations and task-specific trainings (e.g., fall protection, trenching, equipment spotter).
- Maintain up-to-date safety reference materials, SDS, and emergency plans on site.
- Coordinate toolbox talks, weekly supervisory meetings, and monthly safety stand-downs.
- Manage drug- and alcohol-related reasonable-suspicion procedures per FMCSA guidelines.
- Support bilingual (English/Spanish) communication and documentation as needed.
- Certification (choose one):
- CSP + 4 years construction safety experience
- ASP, GSP, or SMS + 6 years construction safety experience
- CHST or OHST + 8 years construction safety experience
- OSHA 500 course (Construction) completed within the last 24 months.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (Red Cross or equivalent).
- Completion of FMCSA-compliant 2-hour drug- and alcohol-reasonable-suspicion supervisory training.
- Proven knowledge of airport safety protocols and Owners Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Ability to work 5–6 days per week on site and maintain an insurable driving record.
