Job Overview

A growing Denver based commercial construction company is seeking an Estimator for their preconstruction team. Salary: $70,000 - $120,000 per year.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and final estimates for commercial construction projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and other bid documents to develop complete and accurate scopes of work.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and assemble pricing for labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Solicit, qualify, and compare subcontractor and supplier bids.
  • Analyze subcontractor proposals for completeness, scope coverage, and cost competitiveness.
  • Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, cost plans, bid packages, and proposal documents.
  • Support bid leveling, scope clarification, and post-bid interviews.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to incorporate lessons learned, production knowledge, and historical cost data into estimates.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings with internal teams, owners, architects, and engineers.
  • Help maintain cost databases, subcontractor/vendor relationships, and estimating tools/templates.
  • Contribute to project handoff meetings to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to operations.
  • Monitor market trends, labor conditions, and material pricing to keep estimates current and competitive.
  • Support multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.
Qualifications
  • 2–3 years of experience in estimating, preconstruction, or project engineering within the commercial general contracting industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
  • Working knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and assembling detailed estimates.
  • Understanding of subcontractor procurement, scope analysis, and bid comparison.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Experience with estimating software such as OST, Bluebeam, Procore, Sage Estimating, Building Connected, or similar platforms is preferred.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience estimating a variety of commercial project types such as office, retail, healthcare, hospitality, industrial, education, multifamily, or tenant improvement work.
  • Exposure to conceptual estimating and budgeting early in design.
  • Familiarity with value engineering and constructability review.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with subcontractors, clients, and internal operations teams.
