Estimator II

Geo Stabilization International — Westminster, CO (Denver HQ) — Estimating & Design

Location: Westminster, CO (GSI Headquarters, Denver metro)

Department: Estimating & Design

Compensation: $99,000 – $126,000 USD

Travel: Approximately 15–25% regionally for site visits and client meetings

We re hiring an Estimator II to prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for GSI s heavy civil and geohazard mitigation projects — earthwork, formwork, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, drainage, foundations, and retaining structures — from schematic design through final construction documents. You ll own assigned trades and portions of preconstruction projects end-to-end, working closely with Operations, Superintendents, and the broader estimating team.

This is a mid-level estimating role: you ll take full ownership of the estimates assigned to you, from takeoff through final pricing, while supporting more senior estimators on larger or more complex pursuits.

Responsibilities

  • Review drawings and specifications from contract documents (RFPs, specs) to determine quantities and calculate pricing.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to solicit and obtain pricing for projects.
  • Communicate with owners to clarify scope of work for assigned projects through the RFQ process and interfacing with Project Development Engineers, as well as with clients.
  • Determine material quantities across various scopes of work such as soil nail walls, anchored tieback systems, pinned mesh slope stabilization systems, micropiles, and other geohazard mitigation-related service lines.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess site conditions, conduct time-studies, or to gather operational data points for future estimates as needed.
  • Solicit and review subcontractor bids for completeness, scope, and pricing.
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify risk factors early in the pre-construction process, as well as through interfacing with Operations, Project Management, Procurement, and Executive personnel where necessary in the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate with team members regarding scope, pricing, and construction details.
  • Perform detailed takeoffs for self-performed work and price assigned trades.
  • Provide complete estimates on assigned trades.
  • Apply best-practice estimating principles from highly-conceptual Rough-Order-of-Magnitude (ROM) estimates through to detailed, construction-ready project proposals.
  • Participate in presentations to owners, regulatory/oversight authorities, and/or other stakeholders as needed.
  • Support subcontractor and supplier buyout for assigned trades.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project cost or efficiency and share suggestions with the team.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction estimating experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with subcontractors, owners, and team members.
  • Working knowledge of heavy civil construction, including earthwork, formwork, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, drainage, foundations, and retaining structures.
  • Familiarity with construction management, architecture, or engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the trades…
