I’m looking for a part-time Studio Manager to help me manage the operational side of my art practice.
My work has reached a point where I’m essentially running a small business by myself: developing and making the work, managing multiple projects, working with collaborators and institutions, handling communications, production, shipping, outreach, and everything in between. I’m looking for someone who can help keep all of those trains running so that I can spend more of my time doing the actual art work.
This is an entry-to-mid-level role in terms of seniority, but I’m looking for someone who is proactive, resourceful, and able to work independently. I don’t want someone who simply waits for a list of tasks. I’m looking for a person who can look at a situation, understand what needs to happen, and help figure out how to make it happen.
What you’ll do:- Keeping track of projects, deadlines, and next steps
- Coordinating with collaborators, institutions, photographers, fabricators, contractors, vendors, and other project partners
- Helping organize exhibitions, public art projects, events, installations, and travel
- Researching and finding contractors, vendors, materials, services, etc.
- Managing invoices, contracts, and other administrative details
- Helping coordinate shipping, artwork logistics, and installations
- Helping keep communications moving
- Supporting grant, proposal, and project administration
- Helping create systems that make the practice more organized and sustainable
- Generally noticing what needs attention and helping move it forward
I’m especially interested in someone with experience in arts administration, exhibition production, public art, artist studios, project management, or a related field.
You do not need to be an artist, but I’m looking for someone with creative sensibilities and an understanding of how creative projects work. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, problem-solving, working with artists and institutions, and figuring out practical solutions to sometimes unusual situations.
You should be:
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Proactive and comfortable taking initiative
- A strong written and verbal communicator
- Resourceful and good at figuring things out
- Comfortable managing multiple projects at once
- Able to work independently and follow through
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, creative environment
- Interested in contemporary art, culture, public art, or social practice
Because my practice engages deeply with race, gender, identity, and social experience, I’m looking for someone who has thoughtful cultural awareness and demonstrated sensitivity to working around these subjects. You should be comfortable working with people across different backgrounds and identities and understand the importance of approaching these conversations with care, respect, and curiosity.
Hours + compensation:10–15 hours per week to start
$30–35/hour, depending on experience.
I’m initially envisioning this as a part-time independent contractor position, with the possibility of expanding the hours as the practice continues to grow.
Timeline:I’d like to begin conversations with candidates immediately, with the goal of finding someone to begin in October
2026.
Thanks!
