DF AY26/27 Program Assistant for Ecological Justice & Spirituality

The Office of University Ministry (UMin) creates a welcoming environment, accompanying our campus community on their varied spiritual journeys, and promotes opportunities to explore the connection between caring for our common home and spiritual identity. This position will support UMins' efforts to engage the campus community in caring for our common home, animating Jesuit principles and identity in connection with environmental justice and ecological spirituality.

This position is funded for a maximum of 4 hours/week.

Actively participate in the work of building community, engaging in justice and advocacy and accompanying others on their various spiritual journeys.

The Assistant for Ecological Justice & Spirituality may have specific responsibility for:

  • Attending Laudato Si committee meetings on behalf of UMin
  • Host at least 1 eco-spirituality focused activity each month
  • Identify ways to educate campus community on eco-justice and sustainability
  • Implementing resources/activities from Catholic Climate Covenant and/or Laudato Si' Movement
  • Support IFTJ and Advocacy Day efforts
  • Provide eco-justice/spirituality tabling or other activities on behalf of UMin for campus-wide events (like Season of Creation and Sustainability Fair)
  • Other events/activities as determined with supervisor

Support the staff and general operations of University Ministry. Duties may include greeting visitors, answering phones, responding to emails, organizing office space and supplies, setting up/cleaning up special events, data entry, running errands on campus, etc.

Attend all "full-team" events such as monthly All-Staff meetings, Fall Festival, Mardi Gras, etc.

All UMin student staff must plan to spend occasional hours on evening or weekend activities.

Collaborate with other departments to execute programming and activities as needed.

Additional Job Responsibilities –

  • Be willing to ask questions as necessary
  • Work effectively and responsibly without close supervision after receiving instructions
  • Be punctual, dependable, and honest
  • Answer questions, both directional and informational, in a friendly, patient manner
  • Communicate clearly, efficiently, and respectfully both in-person and electronically
  • Utilize MS Office Suite, including Office 365, Canva, and Google Suite occasionally
  • Work collaboratively with other student ministers, staff and other departments
  • Support all functions of the department, whether duties are specific to this role or not
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings (usually in the evening) and regular mentoring with UMin staff

Minimum Requirements:

  • MUST have prior experience with ecological justice and advocacy on a college campus
  • Interest in learning about and sharing opportunities for eco-spirituality and environmental justice and advocacy
  • Possess the ability to learn new tasks and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Student must have some flexibility with schedule as the role requires some evening or weekend hours.

This position is benefits-eligible for workers' compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.

Pay Rate

$19.29/hr
