Jake Browne is running for Denver City Council. You would be the person who gets people to the same place at the same time, and then gets them to come back. Eight weeks, September 14 through November 7.

The job

Get volunteers and keep them. One shift is a nice afternoon. Two shifts is a volunteer. We count the second one.

Run the Saturdays Jake isn't at. You own the location, the supplies, the sign-in sheet, and the text that goes out Thursday.

Put on the programs as the money lands. The first one is Benefits Enrollment Days, paid navigators helping seniors claim benefits they already earned, set up before Medicare open enrollment starts October 15. You book the room and the navigators. You fill the chairs.

Close every event like it happened. Photo, headcount, receipts to the treasurer the same week.

Train first-timers so nobody knocks a door guessing.

Answer fast. Someone who raises a hand hears back within a day.

In the last two weeks, everything narrows to getting every volunteer and every neighbor this campaign helped to the polls.

By November 7 the measure is what still runs without you.

Who we're looking for

You've organized people before. A union drive, a mutual aid group, a block party that actually happened. No campaign experience required. Jake has never run for anything either.

You plan for the half of the yeses who won't show, instead of being surprised by them.

You know Denver, or you learn a city fast and on foot.

You can run a spreadsheet, and strangers say yes to you.

You can work a room at a senior center and a group chat full of twenty-somethings without talking down to either.

Nights and weekends are when volunteering happens, so that's when you work. The schedule flexes. The events don't.

What it pays

$45.00 an hour, W-2. Twenty-eight hours a week through October 18, then thirty-five to the finish. About 245 hours and $11,025 in wages across the eight weeks, paid every two weeks on the same day every time.

Other compensation: $750 on November 7 when you finish the term and hand over the volunteer list, the captain roster, and the filled templates.

Benefits: paid sick leave accrued under the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act. Mileage and phone come back to you against receipts, up to $150 a month combined. The job shouldn't cost you money. This is an eight-week term, so there is no health, dental, vision, retirement, or paid vacation benefit.

You have to live in Denver. Every dollar we spend goes to a Denver payee, including you.

You report to Jake. There's no org chart. Building one is the job.

One big note

The money comes from the Fair Elections Fund. We applied August 28 and we are waiting on the Clerk. No offer goes out before it is confirmed, and we will tell you exactly where it stands when we talk.
