Position
Footwear Designer II
Role OverviewA Footwear Designer II at Altra plays a critical role in creating functional and aesthetically appropriate footwear across Altra’s Athletic, Outdoor, and Casual Lifestyle categories. The day‑to‑day responsibilities include working creatively on design projects, maintaining a consistent design language, and providing industry insight to align technical product with brand strategy.
- Develop concepts and creative strategies that meet category and brief objectives.
- Collaborate with Product Line Management, Product Development, Marketing, and Sales to ensure consumer and brand focus.
- Coordinate design deadlines and deliver on‑time project execution.
- Create short‑term and long‑term creative direction strategies.
- Seek and evaluate new design resources, materials, and technologies.
- Translate briefs and marketing plans into clear creative concepts using mood boards and interactive prototypes.
- Present concepts and design solutions to mid‑ and senior‑level managers, discuss and incorporate feedback.
- Manage multiple projects while sensitive to departmental priorities.
- Travel as needed to sourcing countries, factory partners, team off‑sites, and brand events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
- 3–5 years of experience in athletic technical footwear design.
- Proficiency with performance tech packs, tooling 2D blueprints, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Strong knowledge of foot anatomy and biomechanics.
- Understanding of footwear manufacturing processes and technologies.
- Excellent rendering and presentation skills.
- High level of performance footwear materials knowledge.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word).
- Ability to understand complex problems in a fast‑paced environment.
- Curiosity and desire to learn and grow within the footwear craft.
- Preferred: experience or interest in running, 3D software knowledge (Blender, Solid Works, Rhino, Keyshot), AI design and agentic tools.
In‑office position in Denver, CO at Altra’s Global Headquarters.
