What will you do?
A day in the life of an Associate designer – Youth Apparel at The North Face looks a little like this.

  • You’ll work with and support the team on elevating design expression and creating best-in-industry lifestyle apparel that can take people to the far corners of the world, in style and comfort. You will support the Lifestyle & Youth Apparel Design Team on the creation and execution of seasonal product design work.
  • You will work with and support the design team with seasonal research, tool updates, concepts, product design and tech-packing.
  • You execute and create low complexity level products with direction from designers and the design manager, with a defined scope.
  • You focus on learning foundational skills within design process, systems, DNA, brand culture + build cross functional collaboration.
  • You have a basic understanding of brand aesthetic, materials and technologies, fit and silhouette.
  • You have a passion for the details, learning and contribute to team reviews, workshops and events.
  • You will use your Adobe Illustrator skills to create flat sketches of product designs and tech-packs to pass off to the development team
  • You will attend fit sessions to comment on and approve fit of new products and ensure that quality, design intent and perfect fit are maintained through the prototyping process.
  • You will work with cross functional partners like merchandising, development, and costing to understand product brief, costing requirements, and more.
  • You will support the design team in helping prepare presentation decks, boards, etc.
  • You will work on product that is built for Snow/Climb/Trail as well as Lifestyle product that is inspired by these territories through a kid appropriate lens
What do you need to succeed?
We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundation skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 1-3 years of experience and professional achievements within the design and product creation field.
The foundation skills you will need in this position are:
  • Min 1-3 years of experience within the product design field.
  • Good understanding for Fit, silhouette, construction, materials across performance and lifestyle products.
  • Youth apparel experience preferred, but not required. Relevant apparel design experience and a strong interest in the youth market are necessary.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of the design process and working to key milestones and deadlines.
  • Experience and understanding from working in PLM systems.
  • Good level sketching, tech-pack creation skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience doing research, prototyping and concepting across lifestyle and performance products.
  • Cross functional and team collaboration and communication.
  • Positive and flexible mindset is key.
There are also a few skills that are not required but preferred.
  • 3D design experience.
  • Experience using AI rendering tools.
  • International work experience and market understanding.
  • Basic pattern and construction capabilities.
  • Circular design experience.
