Position SummaryWilliamsburg Adventures (WAD) Roaming Guides are outdoor and leadership enthusiasts who assist an Adventures Lead in guiding students through various activities. These activities include rock climbing, hiking, skiing, survival skills, first aid, and outdoor games, where students earn PE credit. Additionally, students earn elective leadership credit through activities like museum visits, college tours, field trips, service projects, and leadership simulations. Travel is required, and hours may vary.
EssentialDuties (Top 5 Roles)
1) Assist with Facilitating Transformational Learning Experiences
- Roaming Guides will be trained on the Williamsburg Adventures formula to add meaning to each experience. They must be comfortable with 1:1 and group discussions and processing before, during, and after activities.
- Attendance at all online and in-person trainings is required, with schedules provided in advance.
- Roaming Guides will be assigned to a specific area, but may be asked to travel further based on staffing needs.
- Roaming Guides will support different groups throughout the semester, responding to each group's varying needs. They will also be available for last-minute substitutions if a lead or guide is unavailable due to illness.
- Roaming Guides assist Adventure Leads during 15 events per semester, held on predetermined Fridays, by guiding students, leading discussions, managing attendance, and assisting with games and activities.
- Roaming Guides are expected to arrive 30 minutes early, help with cleanup, and care for equipment. Most adventures run 2-5 hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Adventures courses involve large groups of students, and Roaming Guides support Adventures Leads in ensuring student safety between drop-off and pick-up.
- Roaming Guides report directly to the State Coordinator in their respective geographical areas.
- Roaming Guides will provide feedback to the Lead and Coordinator on potential improvements or any concerns that arise.
- Roaming Guides should model behavior that earns the group's trust, serving as role models and fostering a sense of belonging among students at each adventure.
- Guides contribute to building a strong sense of community and extending their positive influence throughout the experience.
- Participate in WL events as needed.
- Will be a substitute, as needed.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the State Adventures State Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications- Must be at least 18 years old with one year post-high school; outdoor and leadership experience preferred.
- Current First Aid & CPR certification (or willing to get it), valid driver's license, and the ability to pass a background check.
