Department Information

The Senior Director of Student Success and P‑20 Alignment provides leadership to the SSAA team and supports the strategic direction of the Department and the Chief Student Success and Academic Affairs Officer. This position works with multiple stakeholder groups on high-impact strategies that influence student success and academic excellence statewide and has primary responsibility and oversight for student success programs in the Department.

The role designs, implements, and monitors public policies related to the statutory responsibilities of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) regarding student admission, student services, and P‑20 alignment. The Senior Director promotes collaboration among multiple stakeholders across the P‑20 sectors.

Scope of Responsibilities

This senior management position is responsible for planning, directing, operating, and overseeing Student Success and P‑20 Alignment for the Department. It involves complex, specialized, and diverse work with significant accountability and decision‑making responsibilities, including program evaluation, policies, procedures, goals, objectives, and priorities. The duties require considerable independence, initiative, and discretion within broad guidelines.

Job Duties
  • Convene and assist in advancing the work of the Admission Council, the Registrar Council, Title IX Advisory Committee, and the Disability Services Advisory Committee.
  • Direct the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the state’s admissions and P‑20 alignment policies.
  • Lead Department efforts for Concurrent Enrollment and work closely with the Colorado Department of Education to facilitate the program.
  • Direct and monitor relevant student affairs CCHE policies and Department procedures that reflect statutory changes and Governor’s policy changes.
  • Collaborate with public institutions to develop and implement new policy and communicate broadly to stakeholders, including students and parents, affected by these changes.
  • Create a culture that encourages dialogue internally among department staff and with external partners.
  • Serve as lead for the Section VI:
    Student Services Section of CCHE policies, ensuring policies remain up‑to‑date.
  • Serve as liaison to partners including institutional student affairs personnel, high school administrators and counselors, Colorado Department of Education working groups, and public and private student access initiatives.
  • Collaborate with My Colorado Journey on the maintenance of the web‑based admissions planning tool and provide statewide training for high school counselors, parents, and students on the new admissions tool and policy.
  • Represent the office on legislative mandates that are student affairs related.
  • Identify opportunities and drive innovative practices in the design and delivery of student services programs to enhance student success and promote postsecondary attainment, including development and scaling of Open Education Resources and related learning innovations.
  • Provide budgetary oversight and management of the general fund budget for Student Affairs.
  • Strategize to align resources more closely with the Department’s vision.
Qualifications Education

Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typically a Master’s degree in education, higher education, or a related field. Six years of experience in a related field may replace the master’s degree requirement.

  • Five years of administrative experience in a postsecondary or related setting.
  • Three or more years of experience in higher education, education policy, or other related fields.
