Position Summary

The University Registrar plays a critical university-wide leadership role in advancing institutional goals by ensuring that academic infrastructure—particularly student records, registration, and institutional student systems—is aligned with the university’s mission to support timely graduation, reduce barriers to student progress, and uphold the integrity of the academic experience. This position collaborates with academic leadership, faculty, and administrative partners across the institution to ensure that systems and policies are responsive to the evolving needs of faculty, students, and the institution.

The Registrar reports to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.

Within the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of the Registrar supports students and faculty by providing the tools needed to review academic progress, create class schedules, and successfully register for classes. The Registrar plays a key role in aligning registrar functions with broader academic and student success strategies, ensuring that academic operations are student-centered, data-informed, and equity-driven.

Essential Functions

The Registrar leads the Office of the Registrar, overseeing 22 benefitted staff, six student employees, and a combined budget of $2.2 million.

Responsibilities include:

  • Academic Records & Registration Management:
    Administer institutional registration systems encompassing more than 275,000 course registration transactions annually
  • Manage transcripts, grades, enrollment and degree verifications, and student record reporting
  • Certify all undergraduate degrees; post undergraduate and graduate credentials in Banner (DU's Student Information System); produce physical and electronic diplomas and certificates
  • Administer transfer credit and study abroad credit evaluation on behalf of the faculty for undergraduate programs
  • Curriculum & Academic Systems Administration:
    Administer institutional curriculum administrative processes, course approvals, and publication of DU bulletins (catalogs)
  • Administer institutional student technology systems, including Banner, student success CRM (Salesforce), registration and degree audit systems, and related platforms
  • Develop and implement degree audit systems and evaluation processes
  • Course & Classroom Management:
    Schedule over 14,000 course sections annually
  • Manage 118 classrooms across campus; develop scheduling policies and guidelines for academic spaces
  • Coordinate room assignments and optimize classroom utilization
  • Compliance & Regulatory Administration:
    Ensure compliance with FERPA, Financial Value Transparency/Gainful Employment reporting, and State Authorization requirements
  • Administer regulatory compliance and education benefits for Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense tuition support programs
  • Administer academic eligibility processes for Division I and Club Team athletics programs, ensuring compliance with NCAA rules and certification requirements
  • Innovation & Strategic Initiatives:
    Support units in the development of micro-credentials and badges, including academic badges, co-curricular badges, and credentials for faculty, staff, and student development
  • Lead strategic planning and implementation of registrar services aligned with institutional priorities
  • Partner with Office of the Chancellor to oversee, staff, and implement university Commencement ceremonies
  • Serve as liaison to university Bookstore; oversee course materials ordering process
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency
