Instructional Coaches will be part of the Trevian Professional Learning Collaborative (TPLC). The TPLC is a peer-to-peer professional learning community, where teachers learn from each other, using a research-based instructional coaching model, to support the collective efforts of the District in developing teachers over the span of their career. Instructional Coaches will work closely with Curriculum & Instruction, Student Services, Instructional Technology, New Teacher Induction, and department leaders to develop and deliver professional development in support of the district’s strategic objectives and departmental goals;
they will also develop coaching relationships with teachers to support their growth and development through in-class observations and out-of-class collaborations. Instructional coaches partner with teachers to analyze current reality, reflect on practice and learning, set goals, identify and explain teaching strategies to improve student learning, and facilitate new ways of thinking about student learning. Instructional Coaches work in a team, led by the Professional Learning Coordinator, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, to develop teachers in alignment with the District’s strategic objectives and Characteristics of Professional Practice.
- Accomplished, experienced educator
- Master’s or advanced degree in relevant field
- Five years of teaching experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development and instructional design, assessment and evaluation, and deep understanding of its relationship to student learning
- Strong knowledge of social emotional learning and Tier 1 universal instructional strategies and its relationship to student learning
- Excellent interpersonal skills in listening, speaking, and writing
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills in small and large groups
- Ability to take initiative and leadership in roles and responsibilities
- Demonstrated history of forming positive professional and collaborative relationships
- Highly organized in daily and short- and long-term planning
- Guides and assists teachers in reflection upon their professional practice, selecting strategies, resources, and materials that promote student engagement, learning, and problem solving based on different learning preferences and readiness levels.
- Guides and assists teachers in effective unit, lesson, and assessment designed to achieve their desired learning outcomes.
- Supports teachers in increasing the effectiveness of classroom instruction through collaborating, co-planning, coaching cycle completion, fostering trusting relationships with staff, and supporting the learning process.
- Develops teachers’ capacity to meet the needs of diverse learners and diverse student populations.
- Builds teachers’ capacity to utilize a variety of data to make informed decisions about instructional practices and high impact strategies.
- Supports teachers’ development by co-teaching, modeling, observing, and providing feedback.
- Facilitates peer observations for teachers to see and learn from each other.
- Collaborates with colleagues within and across content areas, grade levels, campuses, including department leaders, administrators, and other instructional coaches.
- Develops a strong understanding of the District’s strategic objectives and initiatives (e.g., Culture of Belonging, Characteristics of New Trier Graduate, SEL, MTSS, etc).
- Develops a coaching practice in these areas to achieve these objectives across the District.
