Job purpose
  • Summer Theatre Classroom Assistants are vital support staff for our summer programming, working with Lead Theatre Classroom Teaching Artists to deliver theatre‑based curriculum to students from Kindergarten to high school.
  • The position is one of responsibility, social maturity, and kindness. This position hopes to inspire the next generation of performing arts Teaching Artists through active and engaging responsibilities.
  • Summer programming runs Monday – Friday from June 15-July 31, 2026. The Monday‑Friday summer workday is structured around the hours of 8:30 am – 4 pm. On each Monday, there is an all staff meeting from 7:45 – 8:30 am. Classroom Assistants balance their workday between pre/post class duties and providing active support to classroom teachers and guest artists, working up to 36 hours per week.
  • Applicants are cautioned not to expect more than two weeks of employment.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support Lead Theatre Classroom Teaching Artists within the classroom with delivery of curriculum, classroom management, and most importantly creating a supportive, fun, positive learning environment
  • Participate fully in all theatre‑based classroom activities
  • Support Lead Theatre Classroom Teaching Artists in identifying and leading theatre‑based warmup activities
  • Support full time staff and other Teaching Artists by working daily duties that include staffing student drop off and pick up and monitoring lunch and free play time
  • Classroom Assistants actively participate within all class activities/events and facilitate student engagement and success.
  • Modeling professionalism, strong time management skills, and collaboration
Qualifications
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have completed their Junior year of high school by the start of summer programming
  • Theatre knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Improv knowledge and experience is a plus
  • A strong interest and experience in childcare is a plus
  • A strong interest and experience in working with young people is a plus
  • For weeks for which you are applying, you must be available Monday – Friday from 8:30am-4pm.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but in some classroom settings can be loud.

Compensation

$19.29 per hour for approximately 36-38 hour per week during scheduled weeks.
