POSITION: Agriculture Faculty
REPORTS TO: Dean of Academics
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Agriculture Faculty member is a full-time instructor responsible for teaching courses in agricultural education, production, and management at Lamar Community College. The position carries a 15-credit-hour teaching load each semester and may include day, evening, weekend, and off‑campus classes. In addition to teaching, the faculty member supports student success through advising, maintaining office hours, and participating in recruitment efforts.
The role also includes involvement in curriculum development, program review, assessment, and departmental planning. Faculty are expected to collaborate with colleagues, serve on college and advisory committees, and engage in professional development and community activities that support the Agriculture Department and the mission of the College.
Lamar Community College is seeking a full-time Agriculture Faculty (166 day contract). This position requires broad teaching responsibilities in agricultural education, production, and management. Other responsibilities are: instructional leadership, planning, coordination, committee work, student advising, and all aspects of the Agriculture Department course offerings at Lamar Community College.
Responsibilities- Teach a 15-credit hour load each semester including various courses in agricultural education.
- Assist in program development and other division tasks.
- Participate in curriculum review and program/course evaluation and assessment.
- Maintain currency in subject areas.
- Use effective teaching/learning strategies.
- Work cooperatively with other department members and the Dean of Academic Services to develop and maintain quality instruction.
- Use of online course support is expected.
- Assignment may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and off-campus classes.
- Instructor is expected to maintain regular office hours.
- Assist and advise students.
- Develop a recruitment plan.
- Participate in department activities.
- Serve on appropriate college committees, including Faculty Senate committees, Agriculture Advisory Board, and other campus committees.
- Participate in professional and community activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
- Previous teaching experience with preference for college‑level teaching and broad teaching competency.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, economic, educational, gender, and/or disability backgrounds.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours.
- Master's degree in Agriculture or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution to teach Guaranteed Transfers.
- Experience with collegiate livestock and/or meets judging.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at oral and written communication.
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively and utilize a variety of teaching modalities, such as cooperative/collaborative activities, problem‑based learning, and teaching to multiple intelligences.
- Knowledge of students served at community colleges and the interrelationship of critical thinking, reading, and writing, as well as the skills to match learners, technologies, and instructional support.
- Demonstrated ability to aid and guidance to students having a great range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others in developing academic programs that focus on student learning and promote student persistence and retention.
- Demonstrated involvement with the greater community and ability to develop academic offerings of public interest.
- Ability to initiate, execute, and follow up on projects, including the ability to set specific objectives and measure achieved results.
