(The below list is not exhaustive. Additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities will be assigned as necessary to support the Access DU program.)
- Act as guides to participating scholars, ensuring their timely arrival to programming and events
- Facilitate building community and connection between scholars
- Support scholars in creating spaces that encourage growth
- Respond with empathy, patience, and tact to a variety of situations, which vary in complexity and can be emotionally charged
- Ensure scholar participants are accountable to group norms and expectations
- Respond to current program needs and take on alternative or additional tasks as required
- Participate in any scheduled trainings
- Comply with all University policies and procedures

Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the social structural issues facing historically underrepresented populations
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusiveness
- Interest in guiding or facilitating group discussion
- Personal values alignment with Access DU goals and pillars of Cultural Competency, College Access, Leadership, and Service-Oriented Spirit
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous college access recruitment experience (i.e. Division of Community Support and Engagement, VIP, CCESL, E-STEM, 1-GENU etc.) and/or a passion for building pathways to traditionally underrepresented populations to college/university
- High level of emotional intelligence
- Capable of exercising good judgement in unexpected situations
- Foundational knowledge of transgender/nonbinary communities, and ability to interact with transgender and nonbinary participants in a manner that demonstrates cultural responsiveness (e.g., correct pronoun usage, correct name usage, understanding of terminology commonly used in the community)
- Awareness of the impacts of trauma, identity, and lived experiences on health and well-being
- Experience guiding or facilitating group discussions
- Spanish proficiency or fluency
- Various indoor/outdoor environments on University of Denver premises
- Unexpected interruptions will occur; stress level is moderate
- Noise level is variable, mostly low to moderate, with infrequent occurrences of high levels
Physical Activities
- Comfortable standing and walking for long periods of time
- Regularly required to move about the campus with the capability of transporting up to 20 lbs
Compensation and Time Commitment
- Mentors supporting Access DU will work up to 42 hours the week of the event
- Mentors will receive an additional 12-14 hours of training and will attend the program 4 days and 3 nights for training (July 15-18)
- Mentors will stay in dorms on campus for the duration of the program
- Compensation is $19.50 hourly DOE
- In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
