Position Summary
The Regional Special Education Facilitator (Northern Front Range) works with Administrative Units at the building level to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. The facilitator leads impartial IEP and other special education meetings, provides facilitation training, supports the Dispute Prevention and Assisted Resolution (DPAR) Workgroup, and represents the department in regional facilitation activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Participate in Dispute Prevention and Assisted Resolution Workgroup meetings.
- Complete training in the established protocol for Special Education facilitation.
- Plan, conduct, and facilitate IEP/ Special Education meetings (e.g., gather input, create agendas, guide discussion, maintain impartiality and confidentiality, keep members on task, assist in conflict resolution).
- Engage in ongoing education and training to develop as a facilitator and to train others.
- Participate in evaluation of facilitated meetings.
- Maintain communication with Administrative Units regarding facilitation needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in special education, social work, dispute resolution, or a related field. - Experience:
Five to seven years in special education as a professional developer, trainer, teacher, director, or other relevant role. - Knowledge of the special education process and legal requirements.
- Experience in conflict management and resolution.
- Ability to remain neutral and process‑focused in contentious situations.
- Experience with culturally responsive practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Proactive initiative and leadership in professional learning, in various settings (in‑person, hybrid, virtual).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel (50% within Colorado).
- Completion of three‑day Special Education Facilitator training.
- Prior facilitation of IEP and related special education meetings.
- Part‑time position eligible for medical benefits.
- Must be willing and able to conduct background checks and pass a background screening.
- Must hold a valid Colorado Driver’s License and be able to operate a motor vehicle for travel requirements.
- Travel may require 50% of the time within Colorado; extended hours and weekend work may be necessary.
