Led by the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education (CAEE), the Environmental Education Corps (ee Corps) Ameri Corps Program places Ameri Corps members at organizations throughout Colorado to focus on increasing environmental literacy for PreK-12 students and implementing the goals outlined in the Colorado Environmental Education Plan. This position will be located at Cal-Wood Education Center in Jamestown, CO. Cal-Wood has connected kids and families to the Colorado mountains through our environmental education programs and, since 2020, through wildfire restoration, research, and education.
We provide access to dynamic, hands-on science education in the field to students from all different backgrounds. Our team enjoys working in our beautiful 1,200-acre outdoor classroom with a team of other motivated individuals passionate about the outdoors, natural science, and education. The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for outreach to school partners, leading parent and students meetings, and teaching environmental science lessons in K-12 classrooms across the metro area.
Summer and winter responsibilities may include serving as an educator for family camps, facilitating outdoor recreation such as fishing, archery, snowshoeing, and hiking with diverse groups. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.
Member Duties :
• Build trust with local communities of color by representing Cal-Wood at school and community events
• Teach and evaluate environmental education programs in accordance with local curriculum standards
• Lead occasional weekend outdoor events for youth and families
• Incorporate science, math, history, creative writing, art, and team building into programs as requested by school
• Engage multilingual groups and families in culturally responsive environmental education programs, sometimes at schools and sometimes at our mountain campus
• Deliver parent and student meetings to answer questions about Cal-Wood's programming and build excitement for environmental education
• Track progress and collect evaluation data for the program's performance measures
• Attend all required ee Corps/Ameri Corps orientations, meetings, & trainings
• Complete and submit all necessary ee Corps paperwork and reports by predetermined deadlines
• Some local travel required and occasional statewide travel possible
