Position Summary:
The ISDenver counselor provides social-emotional support, consultation, and intervention services to promote nurturing environments and relationships among children, families, and staff; provides prevention based social emotional and behavior support to families and children; helps provide skills to staff and families around social and emotional development.

Overview:
- Provide research-based, short-term school counseling for students
- Support students with social-emotional growth by facilitating small groups
- Respond to students in emotional distress as needed and in consultation with classroom teachers, Learning Specialists, Families, and Directors
- Create and update support plans for students as needed, with specific social, emotional, or mental health goals, and communicate sCommunicate with families and staff around topics of relevance (such as stress, mindfulness, bullying, healthy eating habits, self-care, human development).
- Provide social emotional support, consultation, and intervention services to promote nurturing environments and relationships among children, families and staff.
- Provide support and coaching to teachers and other staff with implementing SEL, classroom management strategies
- Maintain records of student information as related to their social emotional development.
- Conduct Classroom observations when necessary
- Work collaboratively with Director of Counseling and Directors/Principals on newsletter and parent education throughout the year
- Work alongside the PYP coordinator to create appropriate SEL lessons into the curriculum for ECE-Grade
5. Teach and model these lessons, where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with Director of Counseling and Directors/Principals on newsletter and parent education throughout the year
- When appropriate, participate in planning and collaboration related to cross division education events, and in consultation with school administrators.
- Maintain a network of local, outside mental health professionals and make referrals to outside resources when warranted.
- Work closely with Divisional Leadership to create behavior learning plans or behavior goal charts.
- Collaborate in the implementation of a DEIB based Social and Emotional curriculum
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation through the registrar system
- Work closely with other counselors and principals to facilitate transitions (K1 new to school, K3 to G1, G3 to G4, G5 to G6, and G8 to G9)
- Support other counselors as a member of the counseling team that may require you to push into divisions you are not primarily assigned to.
- You may be expected to work outside hours if deemed necessary by the Director of Counseling or Building Principal. This includes responding to student crises, family emergencies or other matters that may arise.
- Duties assigned by building Directors, including recess, before school or after school, and lunch duty
