Terms of employment

Full-time, 187 days. Salary is based on education and experience and will be prorated per our Certified Salary Schedule not to exceed letter I ($50,500 to $80,566). The District provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance. The District provides two medical plans for which it pays the full premium for employees, and a third option is a buy-up plan for which the district pays the majority of the premium.

In addition, the District pays the full employee premium for dental insurance and life insurance. The District contributes to PERA on each employee's behalf and offers additional retirement savings options as well as optional supplemental insurance. Employees also receive paid time off. Worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance are provided in accordance with State law.

Position

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' understanding and appreciation of the art of music, including performing a wide range of musical genres, and developing well rounded literacy and musicianship skills.

To identify, promote and develop each student's talents in instrumental musical expression.

To work in conjunction with music staff to provide students with a variety of musical experiences and opportunities within and outside the school day

Essential Functions
  • Develops and administers music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
  • Teach instrumental techniques, music literacy, theory, ensemble performance skills, and musicianship appropriate to student ability levels.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate.
  • Plans, coordinates rehearsals for, and directs students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to ensure a productive learning atmosphere during practice, rehearsal and performances.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and multilingual learners.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate music supplies and instrumental equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order.
  • Direct and supervise instrumental ensembles such as concert band, marching band, jazz band, pep band, chamber ensembles and orchestra.
  • Organize, rehearse and conduct concerts, festivals, competitions, parades and community performances.
  • Prepare students for regional and state honor ensembles and adjudicated events
  • Coordinate performance logistics, including scheduling, transportation, equipment setup and supervision.
  • Manage and maintain the instrumental music inventory including instruments, uniforms, music library and equipment.
  • Develop and administer program budgets in collaboration with the building administration
  • Coordinate instrumental checkout, repairs, maintenance and purchasing
  • Collaborate with other music staff, teachers, administrators, counselors and feeder middle school programs to support program continuity.
  • Attend and supervise after-school rehearsals, evening performances, festivals, competitions, and occasional weekend events. (Additional stipend provided)
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
