Department:
Family Literacy Program
Responsible for direction and overall supervision of a group of mixed age preschool children (1–7 years old). Performs activities that ensure the safety, involvement, and creativity of each individual in the group. Works with co‑teachers and the EFL (Early Family Literacy) team to plan, discuss and implement daily plans in accordance with the current curriculum (TS Gold/Creative Curriculum), incorporating the Colorado Department of Education standards.
Applicant must be highly culturally aware, equitable, and have experience with trauma informed care and be responsive to our diverse families.
- Plan and implement activities for young children ages 1–7 years old, and occasionally older students.
- Scaffold lesson activities as developmentally appropriate per student's age.
- Maintain classroom and behavioral management, supervise 1‑15 children at a time, and provide a positive environment.
- Provide care from 4:30pm to 8:00pm for the expanding GED Adult education courses.
- Maintain daily records of children's attendance.
- Organize and maintain educational materials for the classroom.
- Build strong and positive relationships with families, including parenting time and conferences twice or three times per year.
- Attend required professional development workshops and classes.
- Follow Colorado licensing rules and regulations for maintaining high quality foundational care.
- Use TS Gold and ASQ questionnaires as an assessment platform.
- Travel flexibly between Commerce City, Westminster, and Denver as needed.
- ECE
101 and ECE
103 or Pyramid Plus (minimum); additional ECE coursework preferred. - CDA (Child Development Associate) certification.
- 81365 hours working with four or more children under the age of 8.
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, etc.).
- Cultural awareness and practice of culturally responsive teaching.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with young children.
- Understanding of fundamental child development principles and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Ability to remain flexible with daily routines and schedules.
- Thorough understanding of safety protocols, communicable disease prevention, basic CPR, and first aid.
- Patience, composure, and performance under pressure.
- Physical and mental agility to respond quickly in emergencies.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication with families in a culturally responsive and professional manner.
- Ability to supervise volunteers and interns.
- Willingness to acquire knowledge of the current curriculum and implement curriculum practices.
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and competence at all times.
- Respect confidentiality of each child and their family.
- Treat all children, parents, and staff members with dignity, respect, and fairness.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration across program responsibilities.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills with co‑workers, families, and the program director.
Starting at $21.50 per hour.
