General SummaryThe Assistant Professor teaches English Composition courses and may teach related disciplines such as Creative Writing, Literature, Humanities, or Technical/Professional Writing. The incumbent shares in the leadership of the department, pathway, and college.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach a full course load of English composition (transferable and developmental) and limited teaching in related disciplines as needed.
- Develop and deliver instruction using traditional, non‑traditional, and innovative methods, and demonstrate a commitment to student success beyond the classroom.
- Engage in active scholarship or professional practice in the field of English Composition, including coursework, conferences, workshops, and reading.
- Collaborate with other faculty on curriculum development, textbook selection, assessment of student learning, and professional development of adjunct instructors.
- Advising students on programs and degree planning.
- Participate in college committees and other meaningful service activities.
- Assume administrative duties such as course scheduling, budgeting, hiring and supervising adjunct instructors, and resolving faculty/student disputes as experience grows.
- Serve as a liaison to local boards or commissions, supporting campus and community leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in English, creative writing, professional/technical writing, or composition/rhetoric; OR a related field such as literature, journalism, humanities, or TESL with at least 18 graduate credits in English or literature.
- Two (2) years of college‑level English composition teaching experience.
- Teaching experience with diverse, multicultural populations.
- Knowledge and skills: co‑requisite courses, collaboration with peers, innovative approaches to AI, student‑centered teaching, and online pedagogical practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in English.
- Two (2) years of community college teaching experience in Developmental Education.
- Experience teaching a variety of English courses (developmental, transfer, online, hybrid, competency‑based).
- Engagement in curriculum or program development, departmental projects, or committees.
- Experience in assessment of student learning and outcomes‑based, learner‑centered pedagogy.
