Sociology Affiliate Instructor

Position Summary

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for part‑time affiliate faculty teaching positions. These positions are temporary, non‑tenure track, and will be filled on a semester‑by‑semester basis as the needs of the Sociology degree program evolve.

• Teach introductory sociology courses and other courses in accordance with department needs and the candidate’s field of study.
• Deliver course content to students in person or online, including morning, afternoon, evening, or online class sections as available.
• Prepare lesson plans, course materials, and assessments.
• Grade student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Address student questions and provide academic support as required and appropriate for the teaching assignment.
• Plan and deliver instruction consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course‑coordination policies.
• Comply with university‑wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.
• Adapt to new modes of instruction and demonstrate sensitivity to the educational needs of a diverse student population.

• Master’s degree in Sociology or a related field.

• Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field plus teaching experience.

Affiliate faculty are part‑time, at‑will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, typically on a semester‑by‑semester basis. Affiliate faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program. Qualified candidates are expected to teach in person/on campus upon hire.

Pay per credit hour assignment ranges from $1,264 to $1,482, as determined by university policy.
