WORK STATUS: Licensed, Full-Time Exempt
REPORTS TO: School Principal
This position is for the current school year and is probationary unless the selected candidate is hired after the first student day.
POSITION SUMMARYSheridan High School is seeking a World Language Teacher who has experience working with second language learners and at‑risk populations. The ideal candidate will provide high‑quality instruction that develops students' language proficiency, cultural awareness, communication skills, and appreciation for global perspectives. The teacher will create an engaging learning environment aligned to district curriculum, Colorado Academic Standards, and best practices in world language instruction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Teach and instruct middle school students in World Language courses as assigned.
- Plan and implement standards‑based world language curriculum.
- Utilize instructional practices aligned to communicative language teaching and language acquisition best practices.
- Teach using various methodologies, including lectures, discussions, cooperative learning, speaking activities, writing workshops, literacy circles, and project‑based learning.
- Maintain a target‑language rich classroom environment that promotes language proficiency and intercultural competence.
- Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of students from varied socio‑economic and cultural backgrounds who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity.
- Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate scaffolds to support diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with varying proficiency levels.
- Provide group and individual instruction to motivate students and effectively utilize instructional time.
- Prepare, administer, score, record, and report the results of formative, summative, benchmark, and proficiency‑based assessments.
- Monitor student growth and progress toward language proficiency goals.
- Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and students regarding student progress, achievement, and performance.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support vertical alignment and continuity of language learning experiences.
- Perform curriculum and instructional development activities.
- Integrate cultural studies, authentic resources, and global perspectives into instruction.
- Support school and district initiatives related to biliteracy, student engagement, and academic achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL LICENSED POSITIONS Required- Teachers must hold a valid Colorado License.
- Hold an endorsement and authorization level in the subject area appropriate for assignment.
- Pass an approved content exam in subject area.
- Hold 36 semester hours in assigned subject area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition strategies and world language instructional best practices.
- Develop curriculum as determined by the needs of the school.
- Plan instruction consistent with the district‑approved curriculum for assigned subject area(s)/grade level(s).
- Use formal and informal methods to assess the abilities and needs of students.
- Plan effective use of class time.
- Apply principles of teaching and learning to enhance student achievement.
- Utilize teaching methods appropriate for instructional objectives and learner needs.
- Modify instruction to meet student needs.
- Communicate effectively with learners.
- Provide for and maintain student involvement during instruction.
- Foster communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language.
- Use evaluation of student outcomes to measure effectiveness of instruction.
- Communicate effectively regarding student progress to students and parents/guardians.
- Utilize assessment data to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
