Gifted and Talented and Multilingual Education Coordinator
Position ScheduleCoordinators are paid year‑round on a salary. Their student contact days (176) plus professional development days and parent conference days add up to a 200‑day work year. Outside those days coordinators spend time planning, reflecting, and pursuing professional growth. Coordinators are expected to be on campus ready for students by 7:30 am and to stay until 4:00 pm each day school is in session, including Friday when students have early release followed by teacher PD or planning meetings until 4:30 pm.
There are two weeks of professional development each summer before school begins, which are part of the accounted professional development days. This is a full‑time position M‑F.

The coordinator oversees and implements a comprehensive program for all grades that reflects student and community needs in identifying and serving talent across GT and MLE domains and reinforces Highline Academy’s culture. This role includes:
- Serving on the leadership team.
- Providing a culturally responsive, student‑centered classroom environment.
- Partnering with district GT and MLE coordinators to ensure programmatic compliance.
- Attending district trainings and participating in district professional learning.
- Delivering PD when appropriate to build staff capacity.
- Serving as GT/MLE SAL: scheduling and delivering Universal NNAT3 screenings, Cog At assessments, and ACCESS tests.
- Identifying the needs of talented students and meeting those needs with advanced curriculum, challenging instruction, enrichment units, and growth opportunities.
- Developing program objectives that comply with district rules, developing lesson plans, implementing objectives, and monitoring student progress.
- Preparing, implementing, and evaluating an advanced learning plan for each student based on individualized assessment.
- Providing appropriate schedules for GT students.
- Seeking services through community resources and agencies to meet GT and MLE student needs.
- Developing and monitoring modified strategies in coordination with other teachers.
- Participating and coordinating evaluation teams for gifted and MLE students.
- Providing specialized instruction to individual and small groups of gifted students.
- Assisting in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Maintaining professional competence by completing PD and continuing education courses.
- Encouraging parent/guardian involvement through open houses, volunteering, and conferences.
- Developing and promoting positive community relations among stakeholders.
Coordinators are expected to attend all assigned professional development, lead PD to improve services and compliance, and participate respectfully and attentively. They are expected to serve on at least one network, school, board, or parent group committee to support ongoing work and school culture.
QualificationsRequired:
- Valid Colorado teaching credential with a GT endorsement.
- ELA‑T training completed within the first year in the role.
