About This Job
Itinerant Special Education (SPED) Float Teachers work with students with disabilities. They adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects to students with mild to moderate disabilities. They also teach basic skills to students with severe disabilities. This position requires the ability and willingness to work as a float teacher, and frequent travel throughout the district.

- Help all students develop competence and confidence through a balance of acquiring basic skills and developing conceptual understanding.
- Provide instruction based on the students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Monitor, supervise, coordinate and enforce conduct rules and behavior for assigned students; reinforce positive behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
- Observe, evaluate, report and record students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Communicate with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, related service providers, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
- Prepare educational course outlines, objectives and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
- Present subject matter to students using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style to meet student learning needs.
- May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers' collective bargaining agreement (e.g., coaching, tutoring, or summer programs).
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education is required;
Master’s degree is preferred. - Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. See DPS for specific requirements; CDE Application Receipt is acceptable for 90 days.
- Experience working with students with disabilities who represent the diversity of the District is preferred.
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible within various job duties and assignments.
- Position requires frequent travel throughout the district.
- Commitment to equity and inclusive education; belief in and support for all students to access high-quality education.
- Must have a permanent Colorado address and be able to meet the physical demands of the position, with or without accommodations.
