Surgical Technology Assistant Professor

The full-time Surgical Technology faculty position is a full-time, 9-month position with option to teach summer courses for additional compensation. This position collaborates with the Program Chair in the planning, coordination, and management of the Surgical Technology program, ensuring its alignment with industry standards and continued success. The Surgical Technology Assistant Professor delivers comprehensive instruction to both junior and senior students, providing high-quality education in clinical settings, labs, and classrooms, including online formats when appropriate.

This faculty member demonstrates expertise in surgical technology procedures and fosters effective communication with students, staff, clinical partners, and peers. In addition to teaching, the role plays a critical part in developing and refining course curricula, implementing program initiatives, and contributing to the growth and success of the Surgical Technology program through thoughtful program management and administrative support. Faculty may need to teach at a variety of times (days, evenings, some weekends).

Primary duties include:

  • Deliver assigned courses using up-to-date educational methodologies.
  • Develop course offerings and class schedules that align with program requirements and address student needs, ensuring the efficient and effective use of instructional resources.
  • Collaborate with the Program Chair to plan, implement, and assess annual program goals, objectives, and activities, ensuring alignment with the needs of the program, department, center, and College to enhance overall performance.
  • Foster communication and maintain positive relationships with full-time, part-time, and preceptor faculty, as well as designated hospital personnel. Assist in managing and maintaining all required student and program records.
  • Support the Program Chair in ensuring that the program and curriculum fully comply with accreditation, certification, and other standards set by relevant external agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Program Chair to develop, review, revise, and assess program curriculum and instruction, promoting innovation in curricular and instructional design.
  • Assist with establishing partnerships with medical facilities to create clinical placement opportunities for surgical technology students.

Service to the College includes:

  • Represent the program, the Center, and the College in professional activities and community events.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and perform other tasks as assigned by the Chair, Dean, Provost, and President of CCD.
  • Participate in advisory board meetings.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with businesses, industries, medical facilities, and other community organizations relevant to the program and its graduates.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Graduate of an educational program in Surgical Technology accredited by National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Two (2) years (4000 hours) of full-time experience as a Surgical Technologist within the last 5 years.
  • Proficient in all aspects of operating room procedures relevant to Surgical Technology.
  • Experience in classroom instruction and curriculum development.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations.
  • Knowledgeable in sterile techniques and emergency protocols.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, D2L or other Learning Management Systems, and other necessary software tools.

Hold a credential in surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Must have a current CTE credential or the ability to obtain one.
