A Learning Specialist teacher collaborates with the Special Education teacher and team to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills. Key duties include:
- Implement the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and mental health counselors to develop an integrated plan for students.
- Attend required Special Education training and meetings.
- Update parents on student progress and enlist parental support for behavior control and home activities.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that foster active learning. Provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Perform limited clerical functions related to instruction, such as preparing materials, maintaining records, and communicating with parents.
- Prepare lessons and teach students individually, in small groups, or through co‑teaching with classroom teachers, and communicate with staff to suggest improvements.
- Prepare the classroom for instruction.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Required
- Hold or be eligible to hold a Colorado Teaching License.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Experience teaching subjects based on the Colorado Academic Standards.
- Strong background in instruction and intervention with an interest in experiential learning.
- Strong collaboration skills with teachers.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students below or above grade level.
- Strong decision‑making, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Preferred
- Previous secondary teaching experience.
- Experience working with a diverse student population.
- Technology skills in Apple Technology, Student Information Systems, and Google Applications for Education.

Salary and Terms of EmploymentRidgway School District Certified Educator Matrix as per education and experience. 177‑day contract.
