The Assistant School Director at Family Star Montessori in the Denver Metro area provides critical leadership and operational support to ensure the smooth, high-quality day-to-day functioning of the school’s early childhood programs. Working in close partnership with the School Director, this role supports classroom excellence, staff supervision and development, enrollment and family engagement, and compliance with Montessori principles and Head Start Performance Standards.
The Assistant School Director oversees the consistent implementation of operational systems, policies, and procedures across classrooms, utilizing data and monitoring tools to drive continuous improvement, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain program fidelity and organizational efficiency.
- Assist in the management and monitoring of classroom activities and other aspects of compliance including but not limited to State Licensing and Early Head Start/Head Start
- Collaborate with the Montessori Education Manager to ensure teachers and classroom support are up to date on all training and certification requirements.
- Assist in the management of daily and long-term staffing plans including maintaining ratios, after-hours childcare, tracking classroom staffs’ time-off requests, substitute teacher staffing requests and staffing schedules, and opening/closing the building as needed.
- Recruit and retain high-quality classroom staff, including interview scheduling and participation.
- Serve as a member of the health team, ensuring adherence to Family Star and licensing policies regarding illness exclusion, data entry of health-related notes, medication administration for children, health emergencies, and monitor/maintain symptom logs and incident reports.
- Work with nurse consultants and other departments to monitor medication training and support. Schedule and plan for expirations of all health-related trainings including CPR and individual health trainings (allergy/asthma) per student.
- Provide classroom coverage as needed to maintain proper ratios.
- Serve as administrative support for the school by answering multi-line telephone, greeting guests and scheduling tours, directing calls and inquiries to appropriate people, and tracking inquiries.
- Provide prospective family tours aligned with enrollment team goals and follow-up as needed, including thank-you cards and answering additional questions.
- Participate in community events to promote Family Star to prospective families and potential staff.
- Support with tracking daily attendance, including but not limited to Early Learning Ventures (ELV), COPA, Colorado Childcare Assistance Program (CCCAP), Denver Preschool Program, etc.
- Participate in various programmatic meetings with members of the center team, program team, and teaching staff to ensure effective center operations.
- Manage reflective consultation schedule for all classroom staff.
- Maintain and participate in all collaboration meetings for classroom staff and other departments.
- Serve as a Family Star representative at external meetings as requested by the School Director.
- In the absence of School Director, complete all School Director responsibilities.
- Support classroom staff on compliance with ELV communication and ROMS data entry.
- Support in the tracking of staff trainings to stay in licensing compliance.
- Independent thinking, work collaboratively with teams, and ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- 2-3 years supervisory experience in an early childhood education setting (Head Start/EHS experience highly desirable).
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or BA/BS in a non-related field along with 3 or more years’ experience teaching.
- Must meet State of Colorado Department of Human Services Center Director qualifications and maintain current Center Director licensure.
- Familiarity with federal Head Start regulations, including ERSEA, program governance, and fiscal operations.
- Comprehensive understanding of state-level childcare licensing requirements and quality rating systems.
