Job SummaryThe Department of Humanities, Literature, and Philosophy invites qualified applicants to join as an Adjunct Instructor of Philosophy. The vision is to provide transformative educational experiences grounded in cultural and intellectual freedom, with an emphasis on student-centered learning, critical and creative thinking, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Adjunct Instructor for Philosophy is responsible for teaching part‑time within the Department of Humanities, Literature, and Philosophy didates must have strong teaching skills and the ability to engage students using traditional, nontraditional, and innovative instructional methods, including technology.
- Develop syllabi and course materials using culturally responsive pedagogy and adult learning theory for on‑campus, in‑person courses.
- Support students’ academic progress.
- Actively participate in the department’s ongoing assessment process, including collection of artifacts, norming, and post‑assessment review.
- Teach future courses as assigned using a variety of modalities (e.g., hybrid and/or compressed sections).
- Evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by course outcomes.
- Actively participate in college‑wide and program‑specific professional development.
- Utilize technology‑based programs to access and input information related to student records and college processes (e.g., Banner, D2L, grade books).
- Maintain competency and currency in the teaching field(s) and in teaching strategies, subject delivery modalities, and assessment methods.
- Be familiar with College and Auraria Campus expectations, including accessibility, academic standards, personal responsibilities, and all rules and regulations.
- Master’s Degree in philosophy or a closely associated discipline with 18 credits in Philosophy.
- Two years of Philosophy teaching experience in a community college, college, or university setting.
- Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
