Lecturer

The Department of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver has an opening for a temporary, non-tenure track, part-time lecturer to teach mathematics and statistics courses. The appointment is for one semester, with the possibility of renewal for future semesters.

What you will do:

  • Design and deliver courses.
  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials.
  • Design and deliver assessments, such as exams, assignments, and reports.
  • Collaborate with other lecturers, faculty, and course coordinators to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications):

  • A Master's degree in mathematical sciences from an accredited university; OR
  • A master's degree in any area and 18 credit hours of graduate-level course work in mathematical sciences.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications):

  • A record of successful teaching at the secondary or college level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department employees.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to teach a diverse student body.
  • Ability to develop a clear syllabus outlining learning outcomes, policies, and assessments for the class.
  • Commitment to applying rules in a consistent manner.
  • Ability to present in a classroom in an engaging way.
  • Ability to work effectively with students on a 1-to-1 basis.
  • Ability to provide clear feedback on student written work.
  • Flexibility and empathy in adapting to student circumstances.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Most courses offered by the department are delivered in person, and the successful candidate will be required to teach on campus.
  • While there may be occasional opportunities to teach hybrid or online courses, these are dependent on departmental course availability and scheduling needs.
  • Remote or hybrid teaching is not guaranteed and will be determined by the assigned course mode.
  • Candidates should be prepared for a primarily in-person teaching role.
  • Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements:
    The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.

Compensation and Benefits:
The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position has been established at $1,667 per credit hour (undergraduate level) or $1,808 per credit hour (graduate level). The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. This position not eligible for overtime compensation.
