Regular duties include any of the following, as appropriate:
- Assisting patrons in locating materials and services, utilizing music library equipment and software, and navigating their library patron accounts
- Demonstrating the use of library search tools and explaining library policies
- Checking out, renewing, and checking in materials
- Assisting patrons wishing to pay fines
- Shelving items in designated areas
- Performing periodic shelf reading and stacks maintenance
- Managing incoming and outgoing item paging and delivery
- Assisting in ongoing collection development and maintenance projects
- Cooperating as a team member with staff to achieve efficient library operation
- Working independent shifts, including opening and closing the library, on an as‑needed basis.
- Other projects as assigned by Music Library Supervisor
- Ability to perform work involving considerable attention to detail, follow established procedures, work effectively with minimal supervision, and learn and use library software with great accuracy.
- Ability to analyze facts, prioritize work, and think critically.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff and patrons.
- Ability to work with flexible hours in rotation with other staff.
Proficiency in written and spoken English;
Must be able to lift books and push loaded booktrucks and other materials in this department. Must be able to bend down to access low shelves and use footstools to reach high shelves.
Prior customer service experience, or prior experience in a music library or general library. Completed or in‑progress degree in music or familiarity with academic study of music.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT- The working environment is a patron‑facing lending desk, with additional projects and tasks taking place in the music library stacks, patron study areas, and occasionally other areas of the Lamont School of Music building.
- Patron interactions and other job duties can be unpredictable, and stress level ranges from low to high.
- Noise level is moderate.
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period
- Must be able to lift books and push loaded booktrucks and other materials in this department.
- Must be able to bend down to access low shelves and use footstools to reach high shelves.
- Some tasks require transporting objects up to 20 lbs. across the library/building by hand or with a book cart.

This position will receive training from departmental colleagues and faculty members, and will receive 1:1 meetings to focus on professional development.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSThis position is eligible for federal work‑study, which requires eligibility through the Financial Aid Office. Students will be paid $19.29/hour with the opportunity for yearly increases, dependent on performance.
This position starts in fall quarter 2026, and requires 4 to 10 hours per week for fall, winter and spring quarters, with priority shifts occurring 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM and/or 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM on selected weekdays; and/or occurring between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM on weekends; and/or occurring 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM on selected weekdays, with some flexibility in scheduling.
In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non‑benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
