Job Summary

Join an Office of admissions team that is enthusiastic about promoting access to higher education by supporting prospective and incoming students at Metropolitan State University of Denver. As an Admissions Counselor, you will collaborate with the recruitment team, provide counseling to prospective students, and help the university meet enrollment goals.

Recruitment & Outreach (50%)
  • Represent MSU Denver at off‑campus recruitment opportunities including college fairs, workshops, and community events.
  • Manage a local recruitment territory by maintaining a regular visitation schedule to high schools in assigned regions.
  • Facilitate virtual recruitment activities, including participation in high school visits, college fairs, campus‑sponsored outreach events, and other virtual offerings.
  • Assist with the execution of on‑campus recruitment activities such as campus visits, group tours, bi‑institutional events, and open houses, including presenting to large audiences and providing general support for these events.
  • Answer questions specific to the MSU Denver admissions process, review admission applications and application materials, participate in admissions events, and conduct daily information sessions as required.
  • During the summer, support the Office of Admissions with recruitment planning activities and goal setting for the upcoming academic year, and engage in professional development.
College Access Counseling (40%)
  • Provide admissions counseling and academic planning advice to prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students via email, telephone, video conferencing, text, mail, and direct in‑office communication.
  • Facilitate application and admission of students by coordinating with a variety of MSU Denver student services programs and academic offices.
  • Use professional judgment to interpret university policies and advise prospective and new students about admission procedures, transfer of credits, financial aid processes, scholarships, program requirements, registration, tuition classification, and available student support services.
Additional Duties (10%)
  • Represent the Office of Admissions on internal and external committees and organizations related to recruitment and admission of students.
  • Uphold ethical standards in university admissions and assist with survey and questionnaire preparation to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned schools and recruitment activities.
  • Minimum 1 year of professional or volunteer experience working with high school‑aged students in an academic, college access, admissions, or recruitment setting.
  • Experience supporting outreach, recruitment, or advising activities for students from underrepresented backgrounds (e.g., first‑generation, low‑income, or students of color) in an educational or community‑based setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using a Student Information System or Customer Relationship Management system (e.g., Slate, Banner, Workday, Salesforce).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (speaking and writing).
  • Experience giving and creating presentations for large groups.
  • Experience providing high‑quality customer service through face‑to‑face interactions with clients, customers, or students.
Schedule Information
  • Full Time.
  • Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM (Exempt).
  • Evening and weekend work required to meet program needs.
  • Hybrid Schedule.
  • Travel:
    Less than ten percent overnight travel.
Hybrid Expectations

Recruiters prioritize engagement within their assigned territory, with time commitments shifting throughout the recruitment cycle. On‑campus presence is required at least two days per week, plus additional in‑person meetings and events as needed.

Salary

Anticipated range: $47,300 to $50,900. Final salary will be based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
